284 Lorentz Force Law
definition (Lorentz Force Law) The Lorentz Force law is given by,
- \(\mathbf{F} = q[\mathbf{E} + (\mathbf{v} \times \mathbf{B})]\)
where
- \(\mathbf{F}\) is the total electromagnetic force
- \(q\) is the electric charge of the particle
- \(\mathbf{v}\) is the velocity of the particle
- \(\mathbf{E}\) is the electric field at the position of the particle
- \(\mathbf{B}\) is the magnetic field at the position of the particle.
